December 7 Superintendent Letter to Parents

December 7, 2021

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I wanted to share some information with you regarding COVID in our area.

During the week of November 24 to December 1 the following existed in Sullivan County.

There were 458 new positive COVID cases reported in the past week.

120 are confirmed as vaccinated (26%)

22% of all new cases were less than age 16.

Currently in the Eldred Junior/ senior high school there are 31 students and one staff member on quarantine and 8 positive students.

At the elementary there are 4 staff members who have tested positive and one on quarantine. Also at the elementary school we have 13 students who have tested positive and 43 in quarantine.

There are additional cases in our transportation department and we are in the process of gathering the scope of the infection.

Our school district is not immune from this increase in COVID cases. The new variant seems to impact younger people more than the first virus. Based on the spread of the virus last week it was evident that we needed to take action to prevent or reduce further infection. I can assure you that going virtual was not my first choice since it impacts some families very hard.

We are planning to go back to in-person instruction on December 13. In the meantime we ask that you understand that this action was made with the safety and health of our students in mind.

Sincerely yours,

John C. Morgano Ed.D.
