The first graders had some fun with an egg stem activity! Each student was given plastic eggs and playdough. First, they had to make their predictions on how many eggs they thought they could stack. Then, they were given time to try to stack as many as predicted. The students definitely had some creative ways to make it work!

What a great ending to an amazing challenge. Our 5th graders competed each week in challenges in both math and ELA. The students got to compete both individually and as a team to solve problems and read for understanding. We are so proud of each and every one of our 5th graders and their participation and dedication during the month of March!

GRM had fun celebrating spirit week leading up to spring break. Our color wars and future me days were well received. 5th (red) & 6th (white) had a friendly game of kickball to end out our color wars day and we had so many students showing us what they want to be when they grow up. We had police officers, doctors, zoologists, military, firefighters, chefs/bakers, even a future president of the United States.

Mrs. Langlitz came into the first grade and read the story "Ada Twist Scientist". After reading, she led the class in a science experiment on density.

The Mackenzie Leader in Me cultural committee treated students to a fun and delicious waffle toppings bar this morning. From whipped cream and chocolate sauce to fresh strawberries, blueberries, marshmallows, chocolate chips, and sprinkles. There was something for everyone to enjoy. A sweet start to the day!

Students in third-grade art classes at GRM recently completed 3-D art of fish that reside in Sullivan County. Students were able to decide which fish they would like to create, then used reference photos to draw the front and back of their fish. Throughout the process, students learned about how to draw realistically by paying attention to detail. Students then connected both sides using a low-temperature hot glue gun, and filled them with toy stuffing. Finally, students researched their fish and wrote about them.

The first graders worked together as a class on making positive behavior choices throughout the winter. This week, they celebrated their success with a hot chocolate party!

Mrs. Marcinak’s 5th grade class enjoyed a cozy and productive “Books and Bites” session on March 19! Students worked on building their reading stamina while enjoying some tasty snacks—a perfect combination for focused, independent reading time.
Throughout the activity, students practiced staying engaged with their books for longer periods, explored new genres, and shared recommendations with classmates. It was wonderful to see everyone so immersed in their reading!

In the month of February GRM students and staff were challenged to get active in their classrooms and at home. Ms. Wyss and Mrs. Hunt's 2nd grade were the winners in the primary wing with 464 active minutes and Mrs. Knight’s 5th grade class were the winners in the intermediate wing with 417 minutes. The office staff was the over all winners with a total of 600 minutes. Everyone worked so hard that they earned themselves a glow party.

First Grade was having fun with shaving cream while reviewing their phonics skills.

The GRM Student Council proudly hosted a Vocation & Avocation Event under the leadership of Ms. Kurtzman and the support of the GRM Leadership Action Team!
Our student leaders did an incredible job creating tri-fold presentations and warmly welcoming our presenters. With 16 different vocations and avocations represented, students had the opportunity to visit each table and learn about a wide range of careers, hobbies, and passions.
The excitement was contagious—our students had a blast exploring new interests and asking thoughtful questions!
Some of the careers and avocations included: beekeeping, correctional officers, police officers, master LEGO building, technology, journalism, entrepreneurship, acting, dental hygiene, archery, government positions, art, environmental conservation, fashion design, the National Park Service, coaching, and animal therapy.
A heartfelt thank you to our parents and community members who took the time to share their knowledge and experiences. Your involvement made this event truly meaningful and inspiring for our students!

LUCK OF THE READ!
Have you heard of a blind book exchange? It is a creative, anonymous book swap. Typically the book is wrapped in a paper where you can't see the cover art, author or book title. Clues are on the outside of the wrapping paper as to what the book is about. You select a book and in this case check it out of the library. You only find out what the book is after you've checked it out of the library. Mrs. Bizjak, ECS school librarian, has set up a March Luck of the Read section in the GRM library. Students can read a synopsis of a "blind book" and check it out of our library. This may lead to finding a new author or topic they enjoy. You never know where reading will take you.
